Why don't they care? Council mishandles finances
Our local council is in severe financial difficulties, and the blame
lies squarely with the Labour Party. Their
mishandling of the Boroughs finances has led to massive cuts in our Social
Services. To make up for their incompetence they are proposing the closure of
elderly day care centres, luncheon clubs, increased charges to after school
clubs and massive increases in home care charges to the elderly. These are just
some of the proposals, the cuts go on and on.
Incompetent Labour Council
Focus Team member Barry Smith says "The old, young, and disabled people of our
community are paying the price of incompetent management of the Council by
Labour. This is a disgrace. In May this year they will be up for re-election.
You and I will be have the chance to choose who we want to run the Borough."
Dunedin Road and Auckland Road
The corner of Dunedin Road and Auckland Road has
become a dumping ground for rubbish. In fact Auckland Road has turned into a
permanent place for dumping rubbish. It’s an absolute mess. Councillor Bob
Sullivan is chasing up the Highways Dept. Housing Dept, and Cleansing Dept, to
clear what is there, fence off the piece of council land on the corner, and
bollard the road to stop cars driving down and dumping rubbish. Bob says "We
want action not promises."
Skeltons Lane
A planning application has been put in
to the Council to demolish the industrial buildings at 17 Skeltons Lane and
redevelop the site for residential purposes. Nearby residents will be consulted.
Ive Farm Lane
The Focus Team has at last got the rubbish cleared from Ive Farm
Lane. Park Road plans thrown out The plan to turn the builder’s yard in Park
Road into a 21-pupil school has been refused by the Council Planners. The plans
were seen as an overdevelopment of the site and there was very little usable
play space for the students.
Howell Court, Sophia Road and Clyde Place
After the builders
left Howell Court, residents were amazed at seeing a crudely made yellow
electricity box left at the corner of Sophia Road and Clyde Place.
A sign saying
"don't touch 415 volts" kept people away. The Focus Team contacted the
Council to
find out what it was all about. They said they are waiting for it to be
disconnected and taken away by the LEB. We are chasing the LEB to get this
unsightly box cleared quickly.

Ive Farm Close
Lib Dem Councillor Loretta Hodges is chasing up the repair of street
lamps in Ive Farm Close. These have been out for over 6 months.
Wheelie Bins Council Back Down
Focus has had a massive response
to our article about the Councils proposal to do away with the wheelie bins.
Good news, it looks as though the mass of residents against this proposal has
made the Council re-think and has decided to scrap the idea.
Primrose Road
Residents of Primrose Road are fed up with the number of dumped cars and the
lack of street cleaning in their road. The Focus Team have taken these issues up
with the Council to get the road cleaned up. Focus says: Now that the two car
breakers yards have gone, there is no reason why they should now have more
abandoned cars than other roads.
Ruckholt Road and Oliver Road
Focus has found out
that the Council is planning to block off Oliver Road to traffic. Residents of
Ruckholt Road are concerned as there are many vehicles that currently use Oliver
Road. These would then have to use Ruckholt Road and turn left into the already
congested Leyton High Road (currently not allowed) by the library. Ruckholt Road
has recently been narrowed as less traffic uses it following
the opening of the M11 link road.
Church Road
Cllr. Loretta Hodges is pleased to see that the reported large hole in
Church Road by Goldsmith Road has now been repaired.
High Road
Getting rubbish cleared from the High Road is a
continual nightmare. As quick as The Focus Team gets one lot cleared, then
another lot appears.
Privatising the Tube
The Government's plan to
privatise the Tube has another four weeks of consultation to go before it is
finalised. The Focus Team are opposing this crazy scheme and will be forwarding
their comments to the Secretary of State. If you have any comments, please send
to Focus, and we will include them as well.
