The Liberal Democrat Focus Team thank everyone for their support in the local elections on May 2nd. Loretta, Barry and Bob achieved the best result in Leyton when they took all three seats in Leyton Ward. A message from Barry, Loretta and Bob….

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support.

Regardless of whether you voted, or for whom, we promise to continue to work hard for everybody.

We will continue our work in the community and will keep you informed all through the year.

Now the election is over we can get back to real work - helping local people with local problems.

If ever we can be of any help, do not hesitate to contact us.

Our contact details are on all Focuses, and of course we continue to hold a surgery 10 till Noon every Saturday at Leyton Library, corner of Leyton High Road and Ruckholt Road.

Apart from the terrific result in Leyton Ward, the Liberal Democrats made gains in other wards that deny the Labour Party overall control of the Council. The make up of the Council is now - Labour 29, Conservative 18 and Liberal Democrat 13. The Liberal Democrats will use this balance of power to make sure that the people get a Council that works for them, and not for the Labour Party.

Lib Dems get massive support

The Liberal Democrat vote across the borough increased dramatically, they got more votes in Leyton and Leytonstone than Labour or the Tories, but if we had got only another 50 to 100 votes more in some wards the Liberal Democrats would now be the largest Party in the Borough.

Loretta Hodges, Barry Smith and Bob Sullivan and the other Liberal Democrats councillors will be pressing to implement their positive policies to make our borough a better place to live in. The following are some of them:

  • A rapid response team to clear rubbish from our streets within 36 hours of reporting it.
  • Improved street cleaning service that cleans our streets regularly.
  • To get CCTV in Leyton to combat crime on our streets.
  • Restore the Bathing Service (cut by Labour) so that frail feeble elderly people can at least have a bath once a week.
  • Open up the tip-site in Auckland Road (closed by Labour) so that there is a place for people to dump their rubbish in a proper place and not on the streets.
If you can help by:
  • Delivering a few Focus leaflets
  • Joining the local Lib Dems
  • Putting up a poster at election time
please contact one of the Focus Team.
